This is the view from the road. Rows of orange and yellow tulips filling the foreground, the fields stretching toward the Cascade foothills, a storm sky pressing down over the valley. Every spring, the Skagit Valley erupts into color for a few weeks and then it’s gone. This photograph was made at ground level, inside that color, during one of those weeks.
Tulipanes 001 is the Chromatic version: the full field, nothing held back. It is the first print in the Meji Explore Series and the entry point into the Meji Meji concept, a body of work built around duality. Each photograph in the series exists in two versions. This is the one that shows everything.
Its companion, Tulipanes 002 Tranquility, shows the same field from the same position with the world quieted around it.
